Biography

Dr. Vlad Bursuc is an assistant professor of legal studies in the School of Business. He conducts courses in the legal environment of business, regulation of the accounting profession and employment law, and co-leads the GEAR Conference course. He has conducted research in employment law, entrepreneurship and pedagogy.

Known as “Prof. B” to his students, his teaching philosophy is that professors need to foster discussion, incentivize participation and use the latest technology to meet students on their own playing field. Students can expect to use the textbook or concept overview videos to prepare themselves for in-class discussion. Bursuc designs his classes and gradebook around active student participation and engagement with the material in and out of the classroom. He believes that students learn best when professors relate student experiences to practical applications of theory, opening the door to engaged interpersonal learning. As a result, he includes personal anecdotes of success, failure, adaptation and growth all while encouraging students to do the same. He believes this will help students take charge of their emotional intellect, enabling them to see their ideas clearly manifested and adapt them to the rapidly-changing marketplace. In all of Bursuc’s courses, students can expect scenario-based exams, shared online resources, a classroom environment that is adaptive according to student needs, and an energetic and caring instructor committed to student intellectual growth.

Prior to teaching at GGC, Bursuc worked in Louisville, Kentucky at the corporate counsel’s office for LG&E and KU, LLC, the company that provides electricity and gas to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. While there, he counseled a variety of clients within the corporate structure as he researched issues relating to torts, property, contracts, procedure, securities and administrative law. Before working in-house, Bursuc worked with business clients in Louisville, helping them understand state registration requirements and drafting documents in contract disputes.

Bursuc has also worked with the Office of the Circuit Court Master Commissioner in Louisville where he ensured that the rights of lenders and mortgagors were properly administered throughout the foreclosure process in the aftermath of the 2008 financial collapse. He streamlined the process by assisting in thinning bureaucracy and providing simpler forms for the benefit of all parties regardless of legal sophistication.

Bursuc lives in Atlanta with his wife, Courtney, and their dogs, Geronimo and Roxy. In his spare time, Bursuc enjoys exercising, the outdoors, travel, motorsports and exploring new restaurants with friends and family.
