Older for a Day

With aging comes the arrival of reduced biological functions and mobility. To provide insight to Human Services students on the implications of getting older, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) students donned a "suit" of weighted clothing, as well as specialized goggles and noise-cancelling headphones, to simulate different components of aging.

Georgia Gwinnett College launches groundbreaking after-school program for historically underserved elementary school students

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) has introduced an after-school program for historically underserved elementary school students that will serve as a model for similar programs across Georgia.

Named Grizzly Academy Dreamers, the program serves third-, fourth- and fifth-graders from Jenkins and Lawrenceville Elementary. The initiative was funded by a $1.75 million federal grant spearheaded by its director, Dr. Amber Jarrard Ebert, assistant professor of science education and secondary education department chair at GGC.

The program's overarching goal is to create a community learning center

Georgia Gwinnett College class seeks volunteers for free physical assessments

Want to get a start on those new year health and wellness resolutions? Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) School of Science and Technology is offering a chance for individuals to work on their personal fitness.

The exercise science program at GGC seeks volunteers to participate in a free 12-week exercise program. The program will help exercise science students sharpen their hands-on skills, while gaining experience in a practical fitness setting. Volunteers will undergo a pre-training and post-training fitness assessment, which will include:

As we close out 2022, it’s a prime time to perform a financial checkup. Dr. Cathy McCrary, assistant professor of accounting at Georgia Gwinnett College, said many people have been pulled in several directions during the holidays and may not know where to start.

Georgia Gwinnett College receives grant to research diversity and inclusiveness in STEM classrooms

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) will join with 103 higher education institutions nationwide that will research initiatives to advance diversity and inclusiveness practices in STEM education.

Funded by a six-year $60m grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s (HHMI) Inclusive Excellence 3 (IE3) initiative, the institutional teams have been organized into seven “learning community clusters,” (LCC) with each tackling one of the below challenges:
•    Make the content of the introductory science experience more inclusive.
•    Evaluate effective inclusive teaching and use the evaluation

Georgia Gwinnett College tops ethnically diverse southern regional college list for nine consecutive years in U.S. News & World Report rankings

For the ninth straight year, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) has been ranked as the most ethnically diverse Southern regional college, according to the 2023 U.S. News & World Report (USN&WR) magazine college and university rankings, released today. The same report indicated that GGC ranks #1 in ethnic diversity among public regional colleges in the nation.

The ranking was based on data reported from the college’s fall 2021 semester. With 10,949 students, the ethnic composition of GGC’s student body was 32% black/African American, 26% white, 26% Hispanic, 11% Asian, 4% multi-ethnic and less
