Nearly 300 students from Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) recently traded textbooks for tokens at The Main Event, an evening packed with bowling, arcade games, pool and laser tag.
For Daniela Fuentes, a Norcross resident and first-year health sciences major who plans to pursue nursing, the night can be summed up in one word:
“Exhilarating!” she said. “It was an opportunity to go out and have fun with your friends.”
Fuentes especially enjoyed playing pool, a skill she sharpened in GGC’s game room last semester.
“I loved playing pool against my friends and other people there,” she said.
For Denzel Amoako-Agyeman, ’28, Lawrenceville resident and a management information systems major, The Main Event is a tradition.
“I look forward to this event every semester,” he said. “It’s really an amazing opportunity to enjoy a variety of games, free food, spending time with friends and getting to know my fellow schoolmates.”
His most memorable highlights?
“I scored a 104 in bowling, including two strikes!” he said. “I also enjoyed some friendly competition and winning a few pool games against my friends.”
Zachary Schneider, associate director of Wellness and Recreation for Programming at GGC, said The Main Event serves two purposes.
“It’s a way for us to offer something where students can have fun and socialize during the colder months,” he said. “It’s a good mix of students, including most of the women’s soccer team.”
