As students prepare for the start of fall classes, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) is expanding opportunities in one of today's fastest-growing fields with the launch of a new artificial intelligence (AI) concentration within its Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program.
“The AI concentration gives IT majors the opportunity to specialize in one of the most in-demand areas of technology,” said Dr. Joseph Ametepe, interim dean of the School of Science and Technology.
“Students will learn to design and develop intelligent systems that solve complex, real-world problems while gaining the practical skills employers are looking for.”
Demand for AI professionals continues to grow rapidly. According to Forbes Advisor, the global AI market is projected to reach nearly $1.34 trillion by 2030, while AI is expected to significantly boost U.S. economic growth and productivity across industries.
The concentration combines classroom instruction with hands-on learning, giving students experience designing, building, testing and deploying AI-driven solutions. Coursework also covers machine learning, data pipelines and model validation, preparing graduates to develop scalable AI applications for a wide range of industries.
“Students will develop industry-standard AI skills to meet workforce demand,” said Ametepe.
In addition to technical expertise, students will learn to evaluate the ethical implications of AI, including fairness, privacy, security and transparency.
“Responsible AI is just as important as innovative AI,” Ametepe said. “Our students will graduate with the knowledge to develop solutions that are not only effective but also ethical and trustworthy.”
As a capstone experience, students will complete a portfolio-ready AI project that showcases their ability to design and deliver practical AI solutions for prospective employers.
