GGC hosts Atlanta Science Festival event

A large crowd of young science enthusiasts spent Saturday afternoon at Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC), where they could make ice cream instantly with super-cold liquid nitrogen, build a battery train or write with electricity.

The Chemistry Carnival and Science and Technology Power Up was presented by faculty and students in GGC’s School of Science and Technology, and is part of the Atlanta Science Festival (ASF).

The event included almost 20 interactive booths and engaging demonstrations designed to ignite curiosity and passion for science. Topics included fermentation by yeast, green chemistry and the mathematics of energy, among many others.

GGC faculty and students also participated in Sunday’s Fermentation Fest at Atlanta Utility works, and will appear in the ASF’s largest event, the Exploration Expo, on March 23, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at Piedmont Park in downtown Atlanta.

The ASF is an annual science and technology celebration produced by the nonprofit Science ATL, with more than 100 interactive and educational events held at locations throughout metro Atlanta. The ASF reaches about 50,000 children and adults annually.
