Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) has officially welcomed the Class of 2029 to campus, nearly 3,000 new students as members of the campus community.

“It’s rewarding for all of us at GGC to see the students we’ve recruited here on campus, excited and ready to start their educational journey,” said Kimberly Jordan, interim vice president of enrollment management services and executive director of Financial Aid. “What will be interesting to watch is how the Class of 2029 develops over time.”

GGC continues to draw a global mix of students, a distinction for which it has been recognized nationally. For 11 consecutive years, U.S. News & World Report has ranked GGC the most ethnically diverse Southern regional college. This year’s incoming class represents 54 countries, nearly every county in Georgia, and 22 other U.S. states.

Top academic interests among this year’s students include health sciences and nursing, psychology, IT and cybersecurity, business (marketing concentration), biology, criminal justice, mathematics and education.

For freshman Julian Montgomery, a Philadelphia native who is a cinema and media arts production major, it was thanks to a friend and GGC alumnus that influenced his decision to attend the college.

“She preached that the school is amazing, the film program is excellent, and the tuition rates were one of the lowest if not lowest in the state of Georgia,” he said. “GGC is a great institution to learn and live an amazing college life. Getting involved always helps to ease that life as well and make things fun and unforgettable.”

Bella Demaline, a freshman majoring in environmental science and Buford native, chose GGC for a few reasons.

“It’s such a welcoming environment and it was also close enough to home to allow me to take care of my family,” she said. For anyone considering GGC, she added, “I can guarantee that you will belong here more than you can imagine.”

Enrollment by school shows the School of Science and Technology leading with 27 percent of the new class, followed by the School of Liberal Arts (21 percent), the School of Business (19 percent), the School of Health Sciences (18 percent), and the School of Education (5 percent). In addition, 10 percent of students are pursuing GGC’s distinctive Integrative Studies degree, which allows them to design a program that spans multiple disciplines.

This is the 10th consecutive semester that GGC’s overall enrollment has grown, now over 12,700 students.
