The Georgia Association of Nursing Students (GANS) held its 73rd annual convention at Kennesaw State University Nov. 1. Members of the Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) chapter, Gwinnett Grizzly Bears Association of Nursing Students, received the East District Chapter of the Year award for the second consecutive year. Student Olivia Melville received the Novant Health Image of Nursing Award.

The following GGC nursing students and one faculty member were elected to the GANS board:

  • Enrique Gonzalez-Leon, president
  • Aishat Olaoluwa, second vice president
  • Corissa Howard, public relations director
  • Olivia Melville, publications director
  • Alma Cabron, legislative director
  • Cindy Sanchez, community health director
  • Melantha Belyakov, East District director
  • Margaret Hornsby, nominations and elections chair
  • Dr. Kelli Shugart, assistant professor of nursing, serves as the presidential consultant

The chapter submitted a resolution titled “Raising Awareness for the Nursing Role in Combating the Rise of Medical Misinformation in Immigrant Communities (PDF).” Authored by GGC students Jalise Felder, Kyla Mesa, Anh Do, Logan Boykins and Megan Coyne, the resolution was adopted and passed.
