Dear GGC Community,
Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) has partnered with the National Institute for Student Success (NISS) at Georgia State University to further strengthen our efforts in student enrollment, retention, graduation and overall success.
It is my pleasure to serve alongside Provost Chavonda Mills as project sponsor for GGC’s NISS leadership team. The project leads are Dr. Karen Jackson, interim dean of Student Success; Dr. Justin Jernigan, interim associate provost for academic programs; and Dr. Kristina Watkins Mormino, associate dean of the School of Liberal Arts.
Through an in-depth analysis using both quantitative and qualitative data, NISS has identified four key areas that present opportunities for alignment and improvement:
- First-year experience
- Advising
- Leveraging academic data to address DFW rates (courses with high rates of D, F or Withdrawal grades)
- Communication
GGC has established or will establish in the coming months task forces dedicated to each focus area. These groups will engage in research, identify best practices and provide actionable recommendations designed to enhance student success and streamline institutional support.
The initiative marks the beginning of a multiyear collaboration aimed at the continued commitment to strengthening GGC’s student success infrastructure and ensuring that every Grizzly has the support needed to reach graduation.
Periodic updates will be shared with the campus community as the work progresses. For questions or additional information, please contact provost [at] ggc.edu (provost[at]ggc[dot]edu).
Sincerely,
Dr. Jann L. Joseph
President, Georgia Gwinnett College
