Dear GGC Community,
Each Tuesday, I use this message to highlight the people, progress and priorities shaping Georgia Gwinnett College. As we move through one of the busiest and most energetic times of the semester, I want to take a moment to reflect on the momentum building across our campus as we prepare for commencement.
This season is filled with meaningful milestones that showcase the incredible work of our students, faculty and staff. I am pleased to share that Building H has been officially renamed the Donald K. Balfour II Health & Sciences Building.
This naming recognizes Donald K. Balfour II for his longstanding leadership and service to the state of Georgia and his instrumental role in the establishment of Georgia Gwinnett College. His commitment to public service and higher education has had a lasting impact on our institution and the students we serve. Being part of the unveiling ceremony April 27, alongside University System of Georgia Chancellor Dr. Sonny Perdue, distinguished guests and members of our campus community, was a meaningful reminder of how far we have come and the strong foundation that continues to guide our future.
Late last week, I saw that same spirit of excellence reflected in one of our signature academic events such as STaRS, where our students present their research, scholarship and creative work. These experiences highlight the depth of learning taking place across our campus and the confidence our students are building as they share their work with others. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to engage directly with students — hearing them speak about their work, their ideas and the pride they take in what they are accomplishing.
Across campus, there is a noticeable energy — in our classrooms, at our events and in the many ways our community is coming together to celebrate achievement. It is also a time of high expectations and, at times, high stress, and I encourage each of you to continue supporting one another as we navigate these final weeks of the semester.
As we look ahead to commencement, I am reminded that each event, presentation and milestone is part of a larger journey — one that leads our students to this important moment of accomplishment. Your work makes that possible.
Thank you for the dedication, care and commitment you bring each day. I look forward to celebrating the many successes of this season with you.
Warm regards,
Dr. Jann L. Joseph
President, Georgia Gwinnett College
