Dear GGC Community,
Each Tuesday, I use this message to highlight the people, progress and priorities shaping Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC). Today, as we prepare for commencement, I find myself reflecting on the meaning and magnitude of this moment — not only for our graduates, but for the entire GGC community.
In recent days, I have been rehearsing my commencement remarks and revisiting the stories of many of our graduating students. As I read through their journeys, accomplishments and challenges, I have been reminded once again why commencement is such a powerful and emotional occasion for our campus.
Behind every cap and gown is a story of perseverance, sacrifice, growth and determination. Many of our students have balanced coursework with jobs, family responsibilities, military service and personal challenges while remaining committed to earning their degrees. Their journeys are inspiring and reflect the resilience and spirit that define Georgia Gwinnett College.
This year, we will hear directly from student speakers Enna Lackey and Avanti Moore, whose voices will help represent the experiences, hopes and aspirations of the Class of 2026 and remind us of the transformative power of higher education.
As part of my commencement remarks, I will also recognize several graduating seniors whose stories reflect the extraordinary character and determination of our students, including Shakira Jean-Jules and Gaby Sifuentes.
We will also celebrate five graduates who will take the oath of office and be commissioned as second lieutenants in the United States Army: Darhan Amundson, Hannah Fuchko, Enna Lackey, Shakira Jean-Jules and Ashley Villagomez. Their commitment to service and leadership represents an extraordinary accomplishment and a proud moment for our college.
Commencement is often viewed as the end of a journey, but for our students it is also the beginning of something new. For faculty and staff, it is an opportunity to see the impact of your work realized in a deeply meaningful way. Every lesson taught, conversation shared, problem solved and word of encouragement contributes to this achievement.
There is a special energy across campus this time of year — one filled with pride, reflection, anticipation and celebration. I know many of us will experience a range of emotions as we watch our students cross the stage and step into their futures.
Thank you for the countless ways you support our students and help make these moments possible. I look forward to celebrating the Class of 2026 with all of you.
Warm regards,
Dr. Jann L. Joseph
President, Georgia Gwinnett College
