When is the deadline to apply?

Be aware that the College's application deadlines differ from the nursing program's application deadlines. Prior to submitting a nursing program application, applicants must first submit a GGC application. If you are a transfer student, here’s how to apply to GGC. It is recommended that an applicant apply to GGC two months prior to the nursing application deadline. Here are the deadlines for fall and spring nursing program admissions.

I am already a GGC student. Do I need to reapply to GGC?

No, you do not need to reapply to GGC. 

What are the prerequisites?

Please review prerequisites listed on the Nursing Program of Study.

Do I have to finish all prerequisites before I can submit an application?

Please review the criteria from the Nursing Program Admissions Requirements and Procedures. You will need to complete these items before seeking admission into the nursing program.

I have some general education courses to complete. Am I still eligible for admission into the nursing program?

You must complete your general education courses before entering the program. The nursing program is a time-consuming, challenging program with both theory and clinical components. In order to dedicate the level of commitment needed to succeed, you will be required to complete any outstanding general education course(s) during the Fall or Spring semester, prior to starting the nursing program. 

How many students will be accepted into the nursing program?

The GGC nursing program anticipates admitting 30 students each fall and spring semester for a total of 60 students per academic year.

When will I receive a decision?

For fall admission, decision letters will be mailed the week of April 1. For spring admission, decision letters will be mailed by October 1.

If I am not accepted into the nursing program, do I need to reapply?

Yes, you need to reapply.

Which courses make up the science GPA?

The science GPA is calculated using all attempts of Chemistry 1 with lab, Chemistry 2 with lab, Anatomy and Physiology 1 with lab, Anatomy and Physiology 2 with lab, and Microbiology with lab.

I have repeated a science course. How will my previous attempt factor into the selection process?

All attempts will be averaged. This practice is widely accepted among nursing programs throughout the state of Georgia.

Do I need to have a physical before I apply to the nursing program or after I’ve been accepted?

Once you are accepted into the nursing program, you will need to get a physical before entering the program and registering for the first nursing course. Also, once admitted to the nursing program, you will need to get a full background check and a urine drug screen. A physical is not necessary until you’ve been accepted to the program.

How do I sign up for the TEAS test?

Register for the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test.

Is there a study guide for the TEAS test?

Yes, study guides for nursing school entrance exams are available at many bookstores. They are usually found in the section with the study guides for SAT, ACT, etc. You may also order a study guide directly from the publisher.

As a  GGC student, if I do not get accepted into the nursing program, what other program can I pursue at GGC?

Discuss further options with your academic advisor. The health science degree with concentrations in patient navigation or public health may be options, and you will be able to use all of your Area A–F courses under this program.
