About P-12 Teacher Workforce Program
The P-12 Teacher Workforce Program grant addresses K-12 teacher shortages by strengthening metro Atlanta's educator pipeline.
Major Grant Components
- Targeted recruitment and outreach to engage prospective teaching candidates early
- Pre-education advising and mentorship to provide specific mentoring for those pursuing education degrees at GGC
- Professional and leadership development to cultivate leadership skills and foster student preparedness for the teaching profession
- Scholarships to offer financial support to GGC education majors, helping to remove economic barriers
- Partnership expansion to build important relationships with K–12 districts and schools across Gwinnett County, which help to facilitate placements, internships and employment pipelines
Grant Benefits
- A dedicated education advisor/mentor guides students through the pre-education program (freshman and sophomore years), as well as the application process into the Educator Preparation Program (EPP), during junior and senior years.
- Assigned peer mentors (upper-level School of Education students) provide peer support and help ensure success and progression through the pre-education program.
- Upper-level student and faculty partnership opportunities provide professional and leadership development experiences with the School of Education and beyond.
- Application assistance for scholarships and other financial aid helps to facilitate persistence and timely progression to graduation.
