Freshmen Admission (Never Attended College)

Admission Requirements

• Meet the minimum 2.00 GPA.
  • GGC recalculates GPA based on the grades in the 17 units of Required High School Curriculum (RHSC). See University System of Georgia freshman admissions requirements Staying on Course: The Required High School Curriculum (PDF).
  • Official high school transcripts may be sent electronically through GA Futures, Parchment/Naviance or ScribOrder-Uconnect. Transcripts sealed in the high school's envelope may also be mailed or dropped off in person to Admissions Services, Building D (maps and directions).
• Demonstrate English language proficiency.
  Applicants who are non-native speakers of English or who transfer from an institution outside of the U.S. where English was not the language of instruction are required to submit an approved English language proficiency test.
  Other testing option: ACCUPLACER: minimum scores: Reading: 237 and WritePlacer: 4

Test Scores

• GGC is test-optional for admission to the college.
• Test scores may be required for scholarship consideration.
• Test scores are highly recommended for English and math course placement.
  • Students whose GGC recalculated GPA does not meet the minimum college-level English and/or math course placement criteria will automatically place into the corequisite learning support English and/or math course which will be taken along with the college-level course.
    • Submit official Next Generation ACCUPLACER, SAT or ACT scores to verify if eligible to opt out of the learning support English and/or math courses.

Document Requirements

United States high school

• Submit official transcript from a regionally accredited high school.
  • Current high school seniors may submit an in-progress transcript for admission decision.
  • Final high school transcript due immediately upon high school graduation.
  • Certificates of attendance or special education diplomas are not accepted.
  • Students graduating from a non-regionally accredited home school program or high school, please reference home school admission requirements.

State-issued high school equivalency diploma or certificate

• An official state-issued equivalency transcript is required for successful completion of the GED, TASC or HiSet test.
• Applicant is expected to be at least 18 years of age and for his or her high school class to have graduated.

Foreign high school credentials

• Submit an official document-by-document credential evaluation of high school transcript, including grade point average (GPA) from an approved member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation. Services (NACES) or InCred to demonstrate U.S. high school graduation equivalency. Note: Do not send foreign transcripts to Georgia Gwinnett College Admissions Services. These documents should be sent to the evaluation service.
• If you were recruited as a varsity intercollegiate student athlete to participate in GGC's athletic program, please submit an InCred credential evaluation of your foreign credentials. For more information, please email ggcathletics [at] ggc.edu (ggcathletics[at]ggc[dot]edu).

Additional information

• All required documents to determine admission eligibility must be received by Admissions Services no later than the established admission deadline for the semester.
• For course placement purposes, there is a limit of two Next Generation ACCUPLACER exam (WritePlacer, Reading Comprehension and Math (Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra and Statistics (QAS)) attempts per academic year.

Course Placement Criteria

• The default placement for all students will be entry-level collegiate English and mathematics with corequisite Learning Support, unless the exemption criteria outlined below is met.
• Learning Support courses provide students extra time to maximize their academic success.

Student will be enrolled in English 1101 English Composition I and the corequisite Learning Support course ENGL 0099 Support for English Composition, unless student meets or exceeds one or more of the exemption criteria listed below.

• Have a high school grade point average* (HSGPA) of 2.7 or higher AND have completed required high school curriculums (RHSC) in English

OR

• Meet one of the following minimum test score requirements
  • Next Generation ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension: 237 AND WritePlacer: 4
  • SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing: 480
  • ACT English or Reading: 17

OR

• Have transfer or equivalent credit for an Area A English course (must meet the minimum grade requirement for GGC of a "C" or higher)

Placement into MATH 1001, MATH 1101, MATH/STAT 1401 (non-STEM majors)

Student will be enrolled in one of these math courses and the corresponding corequisite Learning Support math course, unless student meets or exceeds one or more of the exemption criteria listed below:

• Have a high school grade point average* (HSGPA) of 3.1 or higher AND have completed the required high school curriculum (RHSC) in mathematics

OR

• Meet one of the following minimum test score requirements:
• Next Generation Quantitative Reasoning Algebra and Statistics 258
  • SAT Math 440
  • ACT Math 17

It is recommended that students wishing to take MATH 1111, but who do not receive placement directly into MATH 1111 with or without Learning Support, take MATH 1101 with or without Learning Support. While MATH 1001 or MATH/STAT 1401 with or without Learning Support may also satisfy placement into college algebra, the skills necessary for MATH 1111 are specifically addressed in MATH 1101. Upon successful completion of one of these math courses, student will be eligible to enroll in MATH 1111 without corequisite Learning Support.

Placement in Math 1111 (College Algebra) without corequisite Learning Support (primarily for School of Science and Technology majors)

Student must meet or exceed one or more of the criteria listed below. Students meeting the criteria are also eligible to enroll in Math 1001, MATH 1101, or MATH/STAT 1401 without corequisite Learning Support:

• Have a high school grade point average* (HSGPA) of 3.4 or higher AND have completed the required high school curriculum (RHSC) in mathematics

OR

• Meet one of the following minimum test score requirements:
• Next Generation Quantitative Reasoning Algebra and Statistics 266
  • SAT Math 510
  • ACT Math 20

OR

• Have test scores which place student into pre-calculus or a higher math course

OR

• Have transfer or equivalent credit for an Area A math course (must meet the minimum grade requirement for GGC of a “C” or higher)

Placement in MATH 1111 with corequisite Learning Support (primarily for School of Science and Technology majors)

• Have a high school grade point average* (HSGPA) between 3.1 and 3.2 AND have completed the required high school curriculum (RHSC) in mathematics

OR

• Meet one of the following minimum test score requirements:
• Next Generation Quantitative Reasoning Algebra and Statistics 258
  • SAT Math 440
  • ACT Math 17

It is recommended that students wishing to take MATH 1111, but who do not receive placement directly into MATH 1111 with or without Learning Support, take MATH 1101 with or without Learning Support.
