Benefits

Veterans and survivors/dependents receiving the following benefits – Chapter 30, Chapter 1606, Chapter 1607 and Chapter 35 – are responsible for paying all tuition and fees prior to the published payment deadline.

Veterans receiving Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits must have a Certificate of Eligibility on file with the Veterans Success. Failure to provide the certificate will result in a delay of the certification of enrollment. Also, if the certificate is not on file, the veteran must pay full tuition by the payment deadline.

Those who have a certificate on file, receive 100% of the benefit and have an in-state tuition classification status will have their tuition deferred. Any veteran with an out-of-state tuition classification status or receiving less than 100% of the Post 9/11 benefit will be responsible for any money owed and must pay by payment deadlines. The Post 9/11 GI Bill® does not pay for courses that do not apply to a declared degree program. It also does not cover the cost of on-campus housing and associated housing fees.

It normally takes the Atlanta VA processing center 6-8 weeks to process new educational claims, so please plan accordingly.

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs requires that any award for Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship be applied to a student’s account first and then the difference billed to the VA. Any refunds made to a HOPE recipient for HOPE funds, will be due back to Georgia Gwinnett College. It is advisable that you verify that refunds are accurate before using those funds.

The Department of Veteran’s Affairs does not cover tuition for withdrawn classes. This will result in a balance due that is the student’s responsibility. In some cases, the VA will consider mitigating circumstances. Therefore, it is critical that you contact the VA school certifying official immediately upon withdrawing from one or more courses and provide the reason for the withdrawal.

GGC does not participate in the VA’s Advance Pay option.

All service members should speak with their Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within their military service prior to enrolling at Georgia Gwinnett College or any institution. Since military funding is limited, it is important for all service members to use all their resources in making any educational decision.
