Biography

Hyesung Park, Ph.D. grew up in Seoul, South Korea. She earned her undergraduate degree in international business from Sookmyung Women’s University and completed all coursework in a thesis-track master’s program in management information systems at Korea University. Although the degree was not formally conferred due to non-submission of the thesis, Educational Perspectives (a U.S. credential evaluator) recognized her academic work as equivalent to a U.S. master’s degree in management information systems.

She later earned a master’s degree in instructional systems development from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) and a Ph.D. in educational technology and assessment from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in 2004. In 2011, she obtained a master’s degree in information technology from Harvard University.

Park has held teaching and leadership roles at Winona State University, Kennesaw State University, Jacksonville State University and Georgia Gwinnett College. Her teaching focuses on information technology and computing, with a commitment to fostering student engagement and success in the field.

She has served as co-principal investigator (Co-PI) on several funded projects, including grants from the National Science Foundation, and as principal investigator (PI) on projects supported by Google LLC and other organizations. Her recent projects focus on student success, inclusive STEM education and technology-enhanced learning.

Park’s work has been recognized with multiple honors, including the KWiSE Outstanding Women Leadership Award, the Grace Hopper Celebration Faculty Scholarship, the Influential Korean of the Year Award from the Korean Society of New England (Boston, Massachusetts) and the Hybrid Module Project Award (semiconductor division) from Motorola Korea.
