Dr. Karen McCarron joined the faculty of Georgia Gwinnett College in the fall semester of 2013. Prior to that, she taught at various institutions in the University System of Georgia, most recently at Gordon State College in Barnesville, Ga.
Prior to becoming an accounting professor, McCarron was a senior cost accountant for an international trailer axle manufacturer in Montgomery, Al. She was instrumental in decreasing the time required to cost the annual physical inventory of trailer axles and replacement parts by almost 75%. She also assisted with the development of the company’s pricing strategies.
McCarron attended The University of Alabama where she earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. Her dissertation and ensuing research have focused on firms in financial distress and bankruptcy. Since beginning at GGC, McCarron has concentrated on accounting education research, particularly assuring the success of students in principles of accounting. Her teaching interests include financial accounting and reporting and governmental and not-for-profit accounting in addition to principles of accounting.
