Dr. Wenlin Huang joined the GGC faculty in 2013. She received her B.S. in chemistry from Peking University (China) in 1991 and her Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1999.

While at GGC, she has taught Principles of Chemistry I and II, and Analytical Chemistry.

Huang has a broad spectrum of research interests, from instrumental analysis to environmental chemistry (e.g., pesticide in water resources) to public health issues (e.g. air toxicants, diabetic vascular complications).

Prior to joining GGC, she worked eight years as a senior chemist at the Coca-Cola Company, and five and a half years as a senior fellow at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

  • Doctorate – analytical chemistry – University of Washington
  • Bachelor’s – chemistry – Peking University

Academic Interests

  • Diabetic vascular complications, in particular, diabetic nephropathy (DN) and diabetic atherosclerosis (DA)
  • Pesticides and other trace level target compounds analysis in water and beverages using HPLC and GC/MS
  • Air toxicants and smoking-related elevation of cancer risk in U.S. population
  • Analysis of greenhouse gases (e.g. CFCs, methyl halides) and their fluxes between ocean and atmosphere
