If you are planning a research project that involves human subjects as your research participants, remember you need to seek approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB). The Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) IRB decides whether your study is exempt, expedited or requires full IRB review.

Course-related projects (research projects that are part of your course requirements) to be completed by students who are collecting data from other students or others need to be reviewed by the GGC IRB.

Note that the last IRB meeting for the fall semester is Thursday, Nov. 13. Your completed application is due Thursday, Nov. 6.

Also, the consent form example is updated regularly to conform to new federal requirements, so please access the consent form example and use it as a template.

All of the researchers engaged in your project need to complete Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative training modules.

Hints when entering information into the IRB Application Portal:

  • Be sure to attach the questions (survey) and the consent form. You must click "Add Files" and then click "Start Upload" to attach files to the application in the portal.
  • Ensure your statements about risks and benefits in the application align with the statements about risks and benefits on the consent form.

Visit the GGC IRB website for more information, forms and other resources.
