Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) welcomed the Nu Delta Chapter of Alpha Alpha Alpha (Tri-Alpha), the national honor society for first-generation college students, during an inaugural induction and chartering ceremony April 13 in the Student Center’s LVIS.

The ceremony celebrated the achievements, perseverance and trailblazing spirit of GGC’s first-generation students, faculty and staff. Family members, friends, campus leaders and supporters gathered to honor the inaugural class of inductees and commemorate the establishment of the Nu Delta Chapter.

Founded in 2018, Tri-Alpha recognizes the accomplishments of first-generation college students and promotes scholarship, leadership and service among students, faculty, staff and alumni.

The evening featured welcome remarks from Gail Rivera, Student Success advisor I and advisor of the Alpha Alpha Alpha Honor Society. Also, Marvin DeWitt, undergraduate education coordinator and co-advisor of the chapter, conducted a presentation on the history and mission of Tri-Alpha. Campus leaders also recognized the resilience, leadership and trailblazing achievements of first-generation students during the official charter acceptance and induction ceremony.

Dr. Kendrick L. Savage, associate professor of mathematics at Georgia Gwinnett College and founder of Savage Motivation LLC, delivered the keynote address. He encouraged students to embrace their journeys, continue breaking barriers and recognize the impact of their accomplishments on future generations.

The inaugural cohort included 30 student members, 16 faculty and staff members, including three honorary members and two alumni members.

The ceremony concluded with appreciation for the faculty, staff, students and campus partners whose support helped make the inaugural induction and chartering ceremony a success.
