At Georgia Gwinnett College, our deans don’t just lead — they compete. Throw basketball into the mix and things get electrifying. The Deans’ Spirit Challenge, formerly the Deans’ Chili Cookoff at Grizzlyfest Homecoming, gets everyone into the fun!

Here is how it will work:

  • Each dean will sit in a different section of The Convocation Center arena for the women’s basketball game starting at 5:30 p.m. Deans from Student Affairs will sit in the student seating section. There will be a sign with each school’s name as well as Student Affairs.
  • Faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to sit in their dean’s section.
    • Students will be seated in the student section but will be encouraged to cheer for their dean and Student Affairs when called.
  • At the beginning of halftime, the announcer will let the arena know that the Deans’ Spirit Challenge is about to start and get ready to roar.
  • As each dean is called out, fans will be encouraged to make as much noise as possible. The noise level will be measured by a decibel meter.
    • Prohibited items in The Convocation Center include artificial noisemakers such as air horns, whistles, musical instruments, etc.

The winning dean will storm the court to claim the Deans’ Spirit Challenge traveling trophy, a symbol of ultimate bragging rights. So, bring the hype, bring the volume and let’s see who rules the court.
