Core IMPACTS
Core IMPACTS consists of seven core curriculum domains (previously identified as areas A-E). Each Core IMPACTS domain is designed around a specific orienting question (goal or topic), learning outcomes and career-ready competencies.
Core IMPACTS = Institutional priority; Mathematics and quantitative skills; Political science and U.S. history; Arts, humanities and ethics; Communicating in writing; Technology, mathematics and sciences; Social sciences
Credit hours
Credit hours are the number of hours for which a student is given credit for completing a course. To earn one credit hour, a student has to attend a class for one classroom hour (though it’s not always a full 60 minutes) per week for the semester. Most classes are offered in one- to four-hour increments.
D2L Desire2Learn (or Brightspace by D2L, also known as MyCourses)
GGC’s learning management system. You can find important course information, such as the syllabus, through your course pages in this system. See MyCourses (login required).
Databases
Tens of thousands of full-text articles, books and book chapters, images, streaming media, statistics, government information, etc., made available from online sources through the Kaufman Library. Databases cover a wide variety of specific discipline areas and time periods.
DegreeWorks
DegreeWorks is a program that will help you track your academic requirements and progress. It also helps you prepare for future course registration. Through its “What If ” function, you can see how your current classes fit into a different major plan, if you are considering switching majors.
Drop/Add
A period of several days at the beginning of each semester during which students may adjust their schedules without penalty. This action may increase the tuition charges on a student’s account if a course is added or decrease charges if a course is dropped. The number of credits a student attempts also may affect the amount of their financial aid award.
