Marine Corps combat veteran finds home at GGC

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) development director Matthew May had arrived at a crossroads in his life when he came to the Marine Corps — or rather, the Marine Corps came to him. He was 20 years old and had just failed out of college, squandering the soccer scholarship he’d earned as a star player growing up in Chicago.

 “I was sitting on the couch watching TV, wondering, ‘What am I going to do with my life?’ when a commercial for the Marine Corps came on,” May said.

He got off the couch, went to the local recruiting station, and joined that day.

There was something for everyone at Georgia Gwinnett College’s recent Grizzlyfest. The annual celebration has grown in recent years, with engaging events and activities during the week that led up to the Saturday homecoming. Events during Grizzlyfest week included student-centered activities such as a Sneaker Ball, a registered student organization competition, a lip-sync contest, campus cook-outs, at-home Grizzly men’s and women’s soccer games and a college pep rally, just to name a few.

Georgia Gwinnett College to host preview day Nov. 18, application fee waived in November

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) will host its final on-campus Preview Day for 2023, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., Nov. 18.
Prospective students will hear from members of the Grizzly family about programs of study, admissions, financial aid, student housing and more. Participants will be able to tour GGC’s campus and talk to student ambassadors about their experiences at GGC. The party-like atmosphere will include food, music and fun giveaways. GGC team members will host selected breakout sessions in Spanish.

History comes alive at Georgia Gwinnett College with ancient tools demonstration

Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) Arctos Anthropology Club got a view into the past with primitive-living expert, Andrew Minnick, who demonstrated tool-making technologies used during the Stone Ages and pre-contact period in the Americas.

“This event will give students the opportunity to see how these technologies work and try their hand at some of them,” said Kathryn Deeley, assistant professor of anthropology in GGC’s School of Liberal Arts. Deeley said this is the second year Minnick visited campus to demonstrate the tools and tool-making processes to participants.

New SIM lab provides Wall Street-like experience to Georgia Gwinnett College students

A new space on Georgia Gwinnett College’s (GGC) campus will provide a high-tech experience for students. GGC’s School of Business (SBA) unveiled its new simulation (SIM) lab during a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week. The new lab looks like something right out of Wall Street. The space features a real-time LED stock ticker that wraps around the entire room, self-contained workstations with on-demand monitors, wireless collaboration areas, all of which can be seen by passersby through the modern, floor-to-ceiling windows.

Georgia Gwinnett College is most ethnically diverse Southern regional college for 10th straight year in U.S. News & World Report rankings

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) has been ranked as the most ethnically diverse Southern regional college, for 10 consecutive years according to the 2024 U.S. News & World Report (USN&WR) magazine college and university rankings, released yesterday. The Southern region includes 12 states and Puerto Rico.

The same report indicated that GGC ranks #4 in ethnic diversity among regional colleges in the nation.

The ranking was based on data reported from the college’s fall 2022 semester. With 11,030 students, the ethnic composition of GGC’s student body was 32% Black/African American, 27%

New agreement provides a pathway for GGC exercise science students to enter PCOM Georgia's Doctor of Physical Therapy program

Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) in Lawrenceville and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine Georgia (PCOM Georgia) in Suwanee, located just five miles apart in Gwinnett County, recently inked an agreement that’s a winning combination for local students interested in becoming physical therapists.
