About
GGC's Staff Council is committed to supporting the needs and interests of all staff by fostering open communication, collaboration and a sense of community. Grounded in fairness, transparency and inclusion, the council works to strengthen relationships across campus, advocate for staff concerns and recommend meaningful improvements that contribute to a positive, thriving workplace where every employee can succeed.
Council Objectives
The council envisions itself as a trusted partner that empowers all staff, drives meaningful change, and embodies fairness, transparency and inclusion. Its work is underpinned by the following values:
- Provide a forum for the introduction of staff-related concerns.
- Examine, discuss and address staff-related issues, recommendations and concerns.
- Determine whether an item can be resolved within the GGCSC or should be referred to executive leadership.
- Inform the GGCSC Executive Committee of staff-related issues, recommendations and concerns that require consideration and support.
Membership Eligibility
GGC’s Staff Council is composed of elected representatives from across the college’s schools and administrative units. Membership eligibility, term lengths and representation structures are informed by Staff Council bylaws.
- Any full-time or part-time employee of GGC (as referenced in the Board of Regents Policy Manual and defined in the Board of Regent’s Human Resources Administrative Practice Manual), is eligible for GGC Staff Council membership.
- To apply for membership, employees must submit an application to the executive committee with their direct manager's support in the form of a signature of approval.
- The GGCSC shall consist of staff members representing various operational units across campus. For representation vacancies, an executive council member will ask leadership to assist in identifying a staff member to represent their areas.
- Applications for new membership is accepted on an ongoing basis to be considered and approved by the GGSC Executive Council. Submit applications to staffcouncil [at] ggc.edu (staffcouncil[at]ggc[dot]edu) or to a GGCSC member.
- Each member will serve a minimum one-year term, however, there is no limit on the number of terms a member may choose to serve.
- Each member will serve a minimum of four hours a month towards GGCSC initiatives, which include but are not limited to attending meetings, planning and volunteering for events/activities, and distributing communications.
