INSIDE GGC
Publicly available course syllabuses

At the May 15, 2025, meeting, the Board of Regents approved a request from the Board’s Committee on Academic Affairs for all institutions within the University System of Georgia (USG) to post course syllabuses on their public websites. This action aims to ensure that all students have access to the critical information necessary for informed course selection and successful academic planning.
Over the summer, USG Academic Affairs provided institutions with guidelines and timelines for posting course syllabuses.
Guidelines
- Syllabuses should be posted consistently across all units (e.g., department, school, etc.).
- A procedure for collecting, updating and verifying that syllabuses are posted must be established.
- Changes to the information that is required to be posted publicly (see below) must be updated and available in the publicly posted version of the syllabus in a timely manner. Changes to the syllabus due to weather do not have to be reflected. Institutions must consider ways to track updates to syllabuses.
- If multiple sections of a course are identical, a single syllabus with the relevant section numbers can be used. The syllabus must include a statement indicating that all course sections follow the same syllabus and a note about the faculty teaching the course.
Required information for publicly available syllabuses
Course syllabuses must have the following information available to the public:
- Course prefix, number and name
- Semester and academic year
- Course description
- Course learning outcomes: These are the approved outcomes for the course.
- Required course materials: List of textbooks with ISBN, articles, lab supplies, equipment, course packs, etc. that students are expected to read or reference as part of the course.
- Grading policy: Specify how final grades will be determined, including weighting scales or points assigned to various course requirements.
- Attendance Policy
- Academic Honesty/Integrity Statement
- Core IMPACTS Statement (if applicable)

To support the implementation of publicly available course syllabuses, Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) plans to implement a service that is integrated with MyCourses (Brightspace by D2L). Information Technology and Academic Affairs (AA) have convened an ad-hoc task force to coordinate the technical implementation, configuration of the service and training and support for the service. AA will communicate next steps for faculty through deans and department chairs, Inside GGC and MyCourses announcements.
