Student Computer Recommendations
Students are responsible for making sure they have the required technology for their classes. Using a device that meets these requirements will help ensure full access to course materials and support successful completion of assignments.
Basic Recommendations
GGC recommends that students use a computer with a webcam, microphone, speakers, antivirus protection and an up‑to‑date Windows or Mac operating system.
Mobile Devices
iPhones, iPads, Android phones and Chromebooks are permissible in some situations but is not considered a suitable primary device.
Program Requirements
Some degree programs have specific requirements. Consult your school’s requirements before investing in a device.
Get support from GGC Help Desk. Find computer lab locations.
School Specific Recommendations
School of Business
While a laptop is not mandatory, the School of Business has some recommendations that you should take into account. Having adequate computing capability becomes more important as you progress through the BBA degree.
Why a laptop?
In general, a laptop provides more flexibility than a desktop computer. You are better off with your own laptop rather than shared computers.
Why Windows?
Tablets (of any kind), Macs* (MacOS), and Chromebooks are unlikely to be able to operate full desktop versions of software used in many of the BBA courses (Excel 365, Tableau, SPSS, etc.). Some applications, such as PowerBI and MS Project, are available ONLY for Windows PCs.
But I have a Mac!
If you have a newer Mac (2016 or later), you should consider installing and using software like Bootcamp or Parallels. By installing one of these applications, you can install and run Windows 10 and the Windows version of Microsoft Office (and all other Windows applications) on your Mac.
Software Needed:
School of Education
No additional requirements beyond the general computer recommendations.
School of Health Sciences
General computer recommendations should meet the needs of nursing students and follow guidelines laid out in the Nursing Student Handbook.
School of Liberal Arts
No additional requirements beyond the general computer recommendations.
School of Science and Technology
Students in the ITEC program should review their program specific requirements.
